Granny’s Hosts UMHB Homecoming Tailgate
By Marley Anthony, Assistant Editor
The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor played their Homecoming game against Howard Payne University on Oct. 10. To celebrate, Granny’s Shaved Ice hosted a UMHB Homecoming Tailgate from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., featuring free goodies from all the businesses inside 619 N. Main St.
After moving locations in April 2026, Granny’s has expanded and hosted multiple events such as holiday events and markets with local vendors in hope of becoming a regular space for students.
“Not just having [students] in the door shopping… but having them as friends in a community,” Skyler Stewert, owner of Granny’s said. Since starting Granny’s in a trailer with her sister in 2021, Stewert’s goal was to create events UMHB students would enjoy.
“[UMHB students] are our people, they are always here, they are always going to support [us] … I’ve never met a UMHB student that was in a bad mood,” Stewart said.

“I feel like my worlds collide,” Hannah Buenger, UMHB sophomore and owner of Hunny Belle Boutique said. As a student at UMHB and local business owner, she finds herself connecting with students in multiple ways. Seeing students both in her store and around campus supporting her brand. “It’s a really sweet combination that not everyone gets to have,” Buenger continued.
“I love how much [Granny’s] cares about the college students,” senior Kate Myers said. Myers admitted the free handouts were what piqued her interest, but having friends from out of town come to Belton for Homecoming, she used the opportunity to highlight what is special to her. “I wanted to show [my friends] one of my favorite places in Belton,” Myers continued.
Granny’s will be hosting more events in October, including a Farmers Market Oct. 17, Worship Night on Oct. 23 and the new Granny’s Run Club which meets monthly. For more information about Granny’s Shaved Ice, go to their Instagram @grannys_shaved_ice.
