UMHB Nursing Students Receive White Coats
By Aubrey Rae Tipton
On Oct. 16, 2026, 102 UMHB nursing students gathered at Walton Chapel Friday night to celebrate their White Coat Ceremony held by the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor.
The White Coat Ceremony is a nationwide event where medical students receive their first white lab coat. During this event, nursing students also recite their ethical oath.
This event had three main speakers, many of whom were students, who gave insightful advice to the newly white-coated students. One of those speakers was Landri Cornelius, who plans on graduating from UMHB in 2027.
She advised many of the students,: “You have to be there for your patients, not just physically but mentally. Bear with the patients when they need you to get water. And then more water. And more water.”
Cornelius also gave the nursing students study advice., “You are going to have to figure out new ways to study, because the way you studied before may not be the way you study for another exam.”
After completion of the White Coat Ceremony, nursing students will begin their clinicals to help them get more hands on field experience.
